Friend and I are trying new places for Sunday roast/carvery and we decided to go to the Poet Laureate this time - best decision as this was one of the better carveries we have tried. We had the pork and turkey between us (the beef being too pink for our liking!) and the meat was perfect together with lovely crispy roast potatoes, selection of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and very tasty gravy. We followed this with a delicious Eton Mess for dessert which was absolutely divine!! We would certainly return and have no hesitation in recommending the Poet Laureate.

Lovely traditional pub, good food, friendly service, good range of drinks including real ales and good cider. There's a sports section in the snug at the end of the bar, but it doesn't overwhelm the dining area! Recommended.

Good pub good service. Beer kept well. Not stuffy or pretentious. Handy location and very friendly.

Very good Sunday roast. Friendly attentive staff and they even spoilt our dog with his own free lunch plate! A lovely genuine local atmosphere in the pub. This was so different to all the usual chain brands.

Richard Mumford

Great food at reasonable prices and great service.

If you love a real local feel pub come on in! Hand pulled beer in good order, great Landlord who takes CASH (Hussah). Food is really proper job. I had Bubble & Squeak and it was absolutely bang on both in taste and value (Chef brought brown sauce of which I not a big fan, as an glib aside on my part, I asked if he had any Piccalilli and in 60 seconds out it came!! - brilliant!!! 5*). Definitely coming back!
